This book is full of simple, practical information on how to look after your puppy. It is brilliant for first timers, like me, who have no experience of looking after a puppy. I found the information easy to access and understand as it is set out in bite-sized chunks with lots of photos and tips. I have found that now we have our puppy, we keep going back to the book for a reminder. A very useful and easy to read book - well worth reading if you are think of getting a puppy.

We breed hovawarts and our prospective puppy owners often ask me which book I recommend to help them getting things right from the start with their puppies. This is always the one I tell them about. It is short and clear and cover the essential, not only to prevent puppy problems, but also to get a great relationship with your puppy and to teach basic commands in a positive and rewarding way.
It has been written for adults, but because the style is easy to understand, parents can read sections with their children so they can also learn to interact with the puppy in the right way.
A definite 5 stars for me!

This amazing book dedicated for the first-time potential breeder, fascinates and informs as well, active fanciers with years of experience in the field. This serious work is very well illustrated with appropriate photographs and is interjected with a marvelous sense of humor through numerous illustrations. The book includes not just the ideal experiences, but also the "what if ..." occurrences. The chapters proceed in a logical progression. Included is an extensive glossary of terminology. The indexing by individual subject or problem is a complete referral. This piece of artistry painted with words has saved the lives of innumerable dams and offspring. Even the most experienced breeders are now whelping their litters "by The Book"! This rarity in the realm of dogs and breeding is destined to become a classic in its own time and beyond.

My eldest son and his family rescued a large five month old puppy which had been dumped in a super market car park last year. While my son has been brought up with dogs all his life he had never raised a dog on his own. His wife had never owned or lived with a dog and of course neither have the children.
I have owned and been involved with dogs for forty years but do not live near enough to be able to deal with day to day queries for them so this book became their bible and was an enormous help in all aspects of rearing the puppy.
It is written in sensible language that is clear for a new owner to comprehend and yet not patronising or assuming that a simple small problem which an experienced owner would take for granted does not need an explanation.
I have been so impressed with how it has helped them and the results they have achieved that I am buying this book now for my younger son who has bought a puppy which will be coming to live with him and his family at the begining of May.
To anyone looking for instruction in rearing and training a puppy I would recommend buying Puppies by Angela White. It is well worth the cost

This is an excellent book. It is easy to understand and allows you to have an underpinning knowledge of chinese medicine.
