I purchased this book when it first came out and indeed, our kennel is included. Although the basics of Basset owning are well covered and the production (glossy paper with very good colour photographs)is excellent, unfortunately there are a great many errors in the history of individual kennels. These are mainly due to lack of proof reading (ie typos)! As on ongoing history of the breed in the UK, this is a pity. For this reason I only give this book 3 stars. However it is a must for any serious Basset owner's library.
Don't buy this book if you are looking for useful tips on how to raise a basset. This book is actually a collection of random basset related stories.
Clearly the author is obsessed with bassets and she does a reasonable job of pulling together stories and anecdotes from other obsessives. Some of the stories are relatively humorous; others are simply weird and a little bit creepy.
The book is also full of random pictures of bassets in various poses, apparently to illustrate the prose. However, the pictures act as filler in an attempt to make up for the lack of quality content. There are also cartoons which may realistically be an opportunity for the artist to gain fame rather than adding anything of value to the book.
I learnt very little from this book. The key lesson is that some people need to interact with humans more often.
